Seeing Beyond Assumptions
How well do we really know the people closest to us?
An unexpected encounter during a sunset walk reminded me that what we see on the surface doesn't always reveal what someone is experiencing.
In this episode I'm sharing how one conversation challenged my assumptions and renewed my awareness of God's involvement in our everyday lives.
We'll explore how familiarity can affect our relationships, why it's important to recognize that people grow and change, and how our relationship with God as Father shapes the way we see and respond to others.
Whether we're relating to a spouse, an adult child, an aging parent, or someone we've just met, meaningful connection begins when we're willing to look beyond what we think we know.
Are we asking meaningful questions? Are we making room for honest conversations? And are we noticing who the people around us are becoming?

When Hurt Follows Us Forward
Have you ever experienced hurt in one relationship only to discover that it may be influencing how you show up in another?
Sometimes hurt follows us forward quietly. It can affect how we trust, how closely we allow others to come, the decisions we make, and the ways we learn to protect ourselves—without us immediately recognizing the connection.
In this episode I’m talking about relational hurt, forgiveness, healing, trust, boundaries, and what it can look like to bring our pain honestly to God as Father.
We’ll also talk about why forgiveness doesn’t require us to deny that something still hurts, why healing doesn’t have to happen according to someone else’s timetable, and why asking for support can be part of the healing process.
What happened to us is part of our journey. But it doesn’t have to determine how the rest of our journey unfolds.

Living While You Wait
There are times when we've prayed, taken every step we know to take, and still there are no answers.
And that's often when waiting begins creating pressure.
In this episode I'm exploring what happens when there's nothing more we know to do, but the answer we're hoping for still hasn't arrived.
We'll talk about the urge to regain control, what surrender can look like when we still deeply desire a particular outcome, and how to remain available to God without allowing waiting to consume our lives.
Because an unanswered prayer can be part of our lives without becoming the place from which we live.
We can deeply desire an answer…and still live fully with God while we wait.

Understanding Changes Perspective
Sometimes what sounds unreasonable from where we're standing makes perfect sense once we take the time to understand the other person’s perspective. 
In this episode I'm exploring something I've been noticing in everyday communication: how quickly our own experiences, assumptions, and interpretations can shape what we believe about what another person is communicating to us.
We'll talk about the difference between understanding and agreement, why asking for clarification can change the direction of a conversation, and how being deeply known by Father God can begin forming the way we listen to and understand the people around us.
Because our experience can give us perspective—but our perspective doesn't define someone else's.
Understanding creates space for perspectives to change.

Three Simply Words: I Don't Know
 
Three simple words can carry more than we realize:
I don't know.
Sometimes we genuinely don't know. But sometimes those words may be hiding something else—fear of making the wrong decision, uncertainty about what we think, or a habit of looking to someone else for the answer.
In this conversation, I'm talking about something I've noticed again and again with my clients during our coaching calls: sometimes we know more than we think we do. And learning to recognize what we see doesn't mean we have to be certain we're right.
It simply gives us somewhere honest to begin.
Because we don't always need clarity for the entire journey. Sometimes we need enough clarity to take the next step—and trust God to lead us as we move.

What Difficult Conversations Reveal
What happens inside of us when a difficult conversation crosses our path?
I’ve come to recognize that the way we show up in these moments may reveal far more than what we think about the issue at hand. It can reveal where we’re looking for validation, what we’re trying to protect, and how confidently we’re living from who we truly are.
In this week’s conversation, I’m exploring what changes when we no longer need another person to understand us in order to remain grounded in ourselves—and how that can free us to listen, remain curious, establish healthy boundaries, experience our emotions without being controlled by them, and honor the person standing in front of us.
Because difficult conversations aren’t simply about finding the right words.
Sometimes they reveal the posture we’re bringing into the relationship.
And perhaps these ordinary moments are another place where the Father's Kingdom becomes tangible through our everyday lives.

A Life You Love:One Ordinary Choice at a Time
What might an ordinary day reveal about how well you actually know yourself?
In this week's conversation, I'm exploring what can happen when nothing is required of us—and whether we know what genuinely brings us joy, peace, restoration, and makes us feel most like ourselves.
I'm also discussing the difference between intentionally participating in our lives and simply allowing old expectations, habits, or programming to remain at the controls.
Because the more intimately I've come to know God, the more I've discovered that knowing Him also helps me understand myself more truthfully.
And perhaps building a life we genuinely love isn't about creating a life without hard things.
Maybe it's about learning to remain connected to God and ourselves within the life we're living—and intentionally participating in it, one ordinary choice at a time.

More Than a Gathering
Have you ever found yourself longing for a place where you could simply show up as you are?
A place where you don't have to have everything figured out.
Where victories are celebrated, disappointments are supported, and you don't have to do life alone.
I believe there's something in most of us that longs for that kind of genuine connection.
And yet, sometimes the very thing we long for can also be the thing we've learned to keep at a distance.
In this week's conversation, I'm exploring what genuine community can look like when we move beyond simply gathering together and begin participating in one another's lives.
We'll talk about why relationships can sometimes feel complicated, what helps create space for authenticity, and how ordinary acts of love can make the Father's heart tangible in everyday life.
Because community was never designed to establish our worth or become our home.
Home is found in intimacy with the Father.
But from that place, we get to learn together, grow together, and follow Jesus together...and community becomes stronger.

"I Can" Isn't the Whole Picture

Together, we'll consider what changes when we give ourselves permission to slow down, look at the whole picture, and invite God into the decision—not as a taskmaster, but as a loving Father.
Because your capability is a gift.
But being capable doesn't require you to leave yourself out of the equation.

Hidden Treasures
Sometimes we have to get far enough down the road before we can recognize what was there all along.
As I celebrate the 52nd episode of Amazing By Design, I found myself looking back—not only over a year of podcasting, but over a lifetime of experiences, qualities, and gifts that suddenly looked different from where I’m standing today.
What began as a simple anniversary reflection revealed something I hadn’t expected:
Sometimes the very things we’ve questioned about ourselves become treasures when we begin to recognize how God has been using and refining them all along.
And our faithful yeses may reveal even more—about who God created us to be, about the intimacy we develop with Him along the way, and about the work He is doing that we may never be able to see or measure.
Some things, I’ve discovered, may simply remain hidden…
in the depths of God’s ledger.
